Obituary for Geraldine M Novotny

Geraldine M. Novotny, age 88, passed away peacefully, with her loved ones near, Friday, February 8, 2013, at the home of her son and daughter-in-law. The daughter of Clifton and Marie Lawrence, she was born August 30, 1924 in Toledo. She attended Blessed Sacrament and was a 1942 graduate of Central Catholic High School. On April 7, 1945 she married John J. Novotny, and he survives. During the war Gerry worked at Champion Spark Plug, but with her marriage to John she began the most important work of her life, the care and love of her family. Raising 6 happy healthy children is her legacy…she was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother; active in the lives and activities of her children and supporting their interests. Later, when the youngest was in school, she worked at Lion Store, Westgate, retiring in 1982. John and Gerry were the foundation of our wonderful and exceptionally close family and for that we are forever grateful. In addition to her husband, John, she will be sadly missed by her daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia Ward, Barbara and Jeffrey Mitchell, Janice and Timothy Bosch, Betty and William Sheckler, Susan and Richard Williams; son and daughter-in-law, John Paul and Shirley Novotny; 16 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren and another expected in September. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Rosemary. Friends and family will be received Thursday February 14, 2013 from 4:00 to 8:30pm at Ansberg-West Funeral Home 3000 Sylvania Avenue where a prayer service will be held at 7:00pm. Attendees are invited to gather for the Mass of the Resurrection 10:30am Friday at St Pius X Church, 3011 Carskaddon Avenue. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. Pat, Barb, Jan, Betty and Sue wish to acknowledge our brother and sister in law, John and Shirley for their exceptional and loving care of Mom! We want everyone to know they are amazing! The entire family appreciates the care and compassion provided by Hospice of Northwest Ohio, especially our nurse, Vicki, not only for our mom but for the whole family. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 30000 E. River Road, Perrysburg, Ohio 43551
