Obituary for James G. Chengges

Jim attended Lagrange Elementary School, Woodward High School, The University of Toledo, and North Dakota Agricultural College in Fargo, North Dakota. He served his country honorably in the United States Army during World War II. Early in his career, Jim owned and operated the “Stop Four General Store” on Tremainsville Rd. in Toledo. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Continental Coffee as Vice-President and Quaker Oats as a sales consultant until 1992. He was a member of the Toledo Zenobia Shrine, Boaz Lodge #651 and also a 32nd degree Mason. Jim was also a lifelong member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral and was one of the first ten altar boys before the church became a cathedral.
He is survived by his loving wife of 15 years, Jeanne Ryan-Chengges; step-children Richard Ryan, Patricia Nowak, Colleen Zoltanski; grandchildren, Michael Zoltanski Jr., Randall Nowak, Danielle Cielak, Jennifer Zoltanski, Cindy Bradley, Chris Rupley, Susan Brown; great-grandchildren, Taylor Zoltanski, Seth Zoltanski, Landyn Zoltanski, Leland Zoltanski, Christian Zoltanski, Alexa Nowak, Alyssa Cielak, Samantha Cielak; nieces, Catherine Chengges, Linda Cleveland, Maryann Harachis, Denise Turner, Kathleen Turner; nephews, Louis (Tina) Hibbs, Dee (Jane) Kotsanos, Dr. James (Annetta) Kotsanos, Gregory Turner and numerous great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters Anna Hibbs, Mary Kotsanos; brother, Lewis Chengges and sister-in-law Alma Kagin who was “100 years young”.
Friends are invited to visit on Monday July 6, 2015 from 4:00-8:00pm in the Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 Sylvania Ave. where Trisagion Prayers will begin at 7:00pm. Funeral services will begin at 11:00am on Tuesday at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral. Interment will be in Toledo Memorial Park Cemetery. Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider Hospice of Northwest Ohio, or the Lutheran Village at Wolf Creek.
