Obituary for James Coy Spurgeon

Coy Spurgeon of Toledo, Ohio, passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 11, 2008 at Fairview Nursing Home surrounded by his loving family. Coy was born on March 28, 1928 in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. Coy was preceded in death by his parents, James and Hattie Spurgeon, and his six brothers and sisters. He worked for the Allen A. Smith Co. until he became disabled. He was a faithful member of Flanders Road Church of Christ where he served as a deacon for many years. Although he was disabled, his life was devoted to the work of the church. Coy was able to make friends with anyone he met. He was known for his warm smile, kind words and enjoyable humor. Coy brought happiness to everyone he met. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Wynelle "Wynn" Spurgeon, daughters; Vicky (Dennis) Rainsberger and Lisa (Glenn) Smith. Grandchildren; Jayson (Meghann) Rainsberger, Justin (Jessica) Rainsberger, Jayme (Ben) Bennett, Cory (Sarah) Smith and Tyler and Kristin Smith. Great Grandchildren; Landon and Lily Bennett, Adelyn Rainsberger, and Kinley Smith. Also surviving is his sister, Gladys Rose, of Shelbyville, TN. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. on Thursday, November 13, 2008, at the Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 Sylvania Avenue, (between Douglas and Secor Roads), and also at Flanders Road Church of Christ from 10-10:45 a.m. on Friday, prior to the funeral services, which begin at 11 a.m. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio or Flanders Road Church of Christ. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful staff of both Hospice of Northwest Ohio and Fairview Skilled Nursing Center.
