James C. Williams, 90 of Toledo, passed away December 31, 2017 at Lake of Sylvania. He was born October 10, 1927 in Toledo, Ohio and was the son of Erie and Cleo (Utterback) Williams. Jim attended Macomber High School and was a camp counselor at Camp Storer. He enlisted into the US Navy at the age of 17 during World War II where he served on the USS John R. Craig and USS Rodgers. After the war he was in the Enewetak Atoll atomic tests where he saw three atomic bombs detonation just 10 miles from his ship. He married the late Betty L. Frey in 1951 for 55 years and raised four sons. He worked for the Ohio Bell Telephone company for over 35 years as a Switch Board equipment installer. He was a scout leader for his son’s scout troop, active member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, the Old Newsboys Good fellow Association and Conn Weissenberger Post 587 of the American Legion. Jim Enjoyed traveling, seeing 49 of the 50 states, with his wife. He was a member of Reformation Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his sons, Craig (Renee) Williams, Richard (Sue) Williams, Scott (Margaret) Williams and James A. (Laurie) Williams; grandchildren Mike, Craig, Adam, Brad, Cameron, David, Catherine, Scott and Samantha, and 3 great grandchildren. Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; his parents; his brother, Richard; sister, Cora and one of his grandsons, Nick.
