John served in the US Army in 1944 during World War II. He was a member of the Conn-Weissenberger Post 587 of the American Legion, arbitrator for the Better Business Bureau, and member of the Selective Services Board. Beginning in 1950, John worked for the Department of the Treasury, as a CPA. He retired in 1983 after 33 years of service. He then worked part-time for Helvey & Smith, CPAs. John was passionate about the value of education. He was elected to Washington Local School Board in 1997 and served on the board until 2014. John had a sincere devotion in supporting the students and staff at Washington Local Schools and could be seen at many events cheering for them.
John enjoyed a long retirement spending time golfing, bowling, walking, gardening, and attending school events for his grandchildren. John was an active member of Historic Church of St. Patrick. John always believed in giving back to the community.
For John, it was “family first”. John is survived by his wife of 65 years, Bernadine.
