Obituary for Margaret Ankney

Margaret “Peggy” Harriet Ankney, 83, of Toledo, passed away July 11, 2012 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio's Toledo Inpatient Unit. Margaret was born November 18, 1928 to Harry and Ida (Edwards) Chamberlin in Toledo. A graduate from Whitney High School, she worked at Toledo Autolite. After her children were grown, she worked at The Forum Cafeteria, Bartz Viviano and Hill's department store on Alexis Road, from the day it opened until the day it closed. Margaret was known for a laugh that added to everyone's enjoyment regardless of the situation. She enjoyed gardening and nature. With maple trees, lilacs, raspberry bushes and a pond, her backyard is a place of peace and beauty. Margaret also enjoyed decorating her home, especially for the holidays. She had a soft spot for animals; from our first dog, Lady, found as a stray in Forest Cemetery to her last cat, Little Bit, who appeared as a lost kitten in her back yard. Margaret enjoyed friends from work, day trips, her pets and rides in the country. Most of all she loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is dearly loved and will be sorely missed by all who knew her. Margaret's last words spoken to her children and grandchildren were “I love you.” Surviving are her children, Janet S. Ankney, Susan J. (Chris) Allman, John B. Ankney, Sally M. Hill; grandchildren, Sarah B. Wolneiwicz, James L. Hill, Maggie R. (Cody) Martin and 9 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Grace (Howard) Spiess, Wilma Chamberlin and her parents. Friends are invited to visit from 11:00am to 1:00pm Monday at the Ansberg-West Funeral Home 3000 Sylvania Avenue where services will commence at 1:00pm Monday. Interment will follow in Forest Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Assistance Dogs of America or Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Online condolences may be left at www.ansberg-west.com
