Obituary for Margaret Ann Bird

Margaret A. Bird, also known to her family as Grandma Butterfly, gained her wings on Friday March 31, 2017 at the age of 82. Margaret was born in Petersburg, Michigan on July 17, 1934 to Alban and Gertrude Manor.
Margaret was loved by many and was known for her caring and compassion towards others and her contagious smile. She was selfless with her time, a friend to many, devoted to her grandchildren, and a fierce advocate towards issues she cared deeply about. She retired from Toledo Public Schools after working with students with special needs for 18 years. She was also passionately involved with The Most Blessed Sacrament Parish, where she volunteered countless hours to assist others in need. She was a past president of the Blessed Sacrament Seniors and remained active with the group. Other areas of passion include Parents of Murdered Children, Beyond Grief, Red Hat Society, and Silver Sneakers. Margaret especially enjoyed playing cards with her friends.
On July 11, 1953 she married Clifford D. Bird and together they had nine children. Margaret was a loving mother of Debbie Rose, David (Karen), Kathy (Lester) Bowyer, Karen (Greg) Reichert, Kenneth (Irmi), Douglas (Shannon), Denise (Todd) Jagielski, and Daniel. She was Grandma Butterfly to Lisa (Matt), Christopher, Brian, Darin, Cara, Heather (Matt), Eric, Shannon, Gregory, Ashley (Steven), Megan, Ryan, Jessica (Patrick), Kevin, Kyle, Kadance, Anja, Joy (Christoph), and great-grandmother to Hailey, Colten, Logan, Ronin, Lydia, and Finnegan. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Clifford, her parent’s, brothers, Bob and Jim, and her son Kevin.
Friends are invited to visit on from 2:00-8:00pm on Monday April 3, 2017 in the Ansberg-West Funeral Home. Visitation will also begin at 9:30am on Tuesday at The Most Blessed Sacrament Church where the Mass of the Resurrection will begin at 10:30am. Monsignor Michael Billian Officiant. Graveside services will be held at 12:15pm at Pleasant View Cemetery in Petersburg, Michigan. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to The Most Blessed Sacrament Church or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
