Margaret A. “Maggie” Tobin, 80, passed away July 1, 2011 at Kingston of Sylvania. She was born May 14, 1931 to James W. and Mary E. (Brandhuber) Tobin. Maggie graduated from Woodward High School in 1949, Mary Manse College in 1953 where she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Mathematics, she then took several courses in statistical quality control in Detroit before earning a Masters Degree in Eduacation and guidance counseling from the University of Toledo in 1973. She was employed as a quality control engineer for Ransom and Rudolph Co., General Tire and Rubber Co and Owens-Illinois from 1953 to 1963. From 1963 to 1986 she taught mathematics at St. Mary's Hall in Faribault, MN, Indian Lake High School, Indian Lake, OH, Washington Jr. High School and Whitmer High School. Maggie retired in 1986 due to blindness. She served as the chairman of the Toledo Section of the American Society for quality controllers, was a past president of Monroe-Central Business and Professional Women's Club, was a post secretary for the Toledo Area Council of BPW clubs, was the co-chairman of the Ohio State Convention of BPW clubs in 1961. Other memberships included the Institute of Industrial Engineers, the Ohio and Toledo Council of Teachers of Mathematics, Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. She was the first recipient of Toulouse Award, presented by the Quality Engineering Society, named in honor of Dr. Julian Toulouse for service to the society and community. Maggie was member of St. Clement Church since 1972 where she was a member of the Altar-Rosary Society and worked in the church blood donation program. She was an associate member of the Ursuline Sisters of Toledo. She also served on the advisory board for SCAN (Sight Center Audio Network). She was an avid Euchre player, using braille cards and enjoyed traveling and photography. Maggie is survived by her sister, Helen (Ed) Biedenharn; nephews, Mark (Melanie) Biedenharn, Jerry (Ann) Biedenharn; nieces, Susan (Tim) Martin of Jacksonville, FL, Karen (Kevin) Nusbaum of Petersburg, MI; great nieces, Jessica Steenrod, Kelly Biedenharn, Amber, Amanda and Ami Nusbaum and great nephews, Eric Biedenharn, Kevin Nusbaum and Alec Biedenharn. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated 10:00am Wednesday at St. Clement Church. Friends are invited to visit from 2:00 to 4:00pm and 6:00 to 8:00pm Tuesday at the Ansberg-West Funeral Home 3000 Sylvania Avenue where the Rosary will be recited at 7:00pm. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ursuline Center, St. Clement Church or the Sight Center of Northwest Ohio.
