Richard J. Schlachter, 85, passed away on January 23, 2018 in Ebeid Hospice. He was born in Toledo on February 29, 1932 to Marcella and Harold Schlachter.
Dick served his country honorably in the United States Navy serving four years in the Korean War. During this time, he sailed around the world and crossed the equator twice. His ship was given the Presidential Commendation for exemplary service. Prior to his retirement, Dick was employed as a Millwright for Dura Corporation for 39 years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Elma; children, Douglas (Mary) Schlachter, Beverly (Ron) Peters, Mark (Jan) Schlachter, Paul (Tricia) Schlachter; grandchildren, Jaime (Matt) Lapoint, Jeff and Lisa Peters, Adam and Hannah Schlachter, Christopher Schlachter, Brandon Schlachter, Eric Schlachter, Kellie Schlachter, Payten Schlachter, Sydney Schlachter, Skylar Schlachter, Carley Schlachter; great-grandchildren, Olivia, McKenzie, Adilyn, Brady, Drake, Landrey; sister Roberta (Bill) Feltman. He was preceded by his sister Carol Turner and grandson David Peters.
His family wishes to extend special thanks to Promedica Hospice for the excellent care that he received.
Friends are invited to visit from 2:00-6:00pm on Sunday, January 28, in the Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 W. Sylvania Ave. His burial will be private.
