Obituary for Russell R. Wood

Russell R. "Woody" Wood, 92, 0f Toledo, passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2009, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, in Perrysburg. He was born May 13, 1916, in Milroy, IN and was the son of William and Iva Wood. Woody, along with his wife, owned the Mellwood Hatchery for many years. He was also a boilermaker for the American Shipbuilding Company for 28 years, retiring in 1984. Woody ran for County Commissioner, twice and for City Council once. He also served as a judge for the Industrial Commission, for the State of Ohio, for 6 years. Woody was a former member of St. Francis De Sales Church and presently a member of Christ the King. Survivors include his daughters, Janet (John) Reardon and Suzanne (James) Jablonski; son, James (Kelly) Wood; daughter-in-law, Sharon Wood; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Ivan (Jean) Wood and sister, Dorothy Mae Goodson. Woody was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Ruth Wood (1996); son, Thomas Wood (2001); 2 brothers and 1 sister. Family and friends are invited to visit from 2-8 p.m. Friday, in the Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 Sylvania Avenue, (between Secor and Douglas Roads). Prayers will begin at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, from the funeral home, followed by the Funeral Mass at 1 p.m., in Christ the King Catholic Church, 4100 Harvest Lane. Father Dominic Savyo will officiate. Interment will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 30000 E River Road. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at St. Anne Mercy Hospital, a special thanks to Ann Malin, a nurse at Visiting Nurse and Hospice and the staff at Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
