Obituary for Virginia Grace Missler

Virginia Grace (O’Rourke) Missler, born in Detroit, MI, passed away at the age of 99 at home in Toledo, OH on Thursday, March 30, 2017. Her Catholic faith was very important to her, and she’s been looking forward to the “Better Life”. Ginny didn’t like flowery obits but we need to honor this adventurous, fun-loving Irish girl, so…Sorry, Mom!

Ginny was employed with H & R Block and she performed many duties in her years there – secretary, tax preparer, payroll and file clerk among them, for more than 50 years, before finally retiring at the age of 96. She made some long and lasting friendships there.

She was an avid golfer up until the last few years. Ginny played in many women’s leagues over the years and enjoyed all the golfing buddies she made during these times. Ginny also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends at the many different Irish Hills cottages she rented year after year. Her love of being “at the lake” began early as her parents would take her and her siblings to Lake Huron every summer. She provided lasting memories for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family and friends who were lucky enough to spend a few weeks with her during the summers. She also loved to travel, but didn’t start until later in life - Canada, Greece, England, Amsterdam, France, Germany, Spain, Ireland, Alaska, California, Seattle, Georgia, Florida, Panama Canal, Hawaii, and more… She also managed to fit in a hot air balloon ride (when she was 91!). She really inspired us all to live life to its fullest.

Ginny is survived by her daughters, Carolyn Brenning, Mary Lou (Gary) Czerniak, Kathleen (Bob) Weaver; grandchildren, Dawn, Derek (Terri), Scott (Amy) Ormsby; Chris (Kylene), Tim (Colleen), Andy (Jyl) Missler; Keri (Jimmy) Griffin, Erik Brenning; Brian (Susan), Brad (Amber) Villhauer, Melissa (Ronnie) Dodge; Sarah (David) Resch and Rob Weaver; great-grandchildren Jennifer Fackelman and Eden Pudlicki, Jordan, Devon, Christian, and Dylan Ormsby, Cameron Moran, Allison and Adam Ormsby, Virginia Rhodes, Shannon Missler and Whitney Taylor, Brody and Logan Missler, Jarod and Aden Missler, Cooper, Logan and Tucker Villhauer, Dallas Walker, Dylan and Mattie Villhauer, Dane and Austyn Tressler and Levi and Audrey Dodge, Georgia and Beau Resch, three great-great grandchildren, and so many extended family members and friends – all were important to her. She just loved keeping up with everyone.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Walt Missler; daughter, Patricia (Larry) Ormsby, son, William and daughter-in-law, Judy Missler, brother, Richard O’Rourke, and sisters, Kathleen Ireland and Rosemary Wirries and brother-in-law, John Wirries.

Friends are invited to visit on Thursday, April 6th, from from 2-8 p.m., at the Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 Sylvania Avenue, (between Secor and Douglas Roads), where the rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Prayers will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 7th, from the funeral home, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Pius X Parish, 3011 Carskaddon Avenue, Toledo, OH, at 10:30 a.m.

The family would like to thank the kind people at Hospice for making her last year more comfortable. Those wishing to offer memorials in Ginny’s memory are asked to consider the charity of their choice (and maybe lift a Manhattan in her memory – she’d like that).
