Obituary for Walter J. Flowers

Walter J. Flowers, of Toledo, passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2011, at Darlington Rehab Center. He was born in Toledo, OH on November 17, 1918, to Laurence and Franciszka (Mandra) Kwiatkowski. Two years later, after his mother's death, he was raised by his father and Step mother, Anna Rochowiak. He married Henrietta Burzynski on April 18, 1942, and celebrated 67 years of marriage, before her death on November 22, 2009. He served honorably in the U.S. Army during WW II. Afterwards he worked at Jersey Bread Company and Valley Farm Foods, retiring in 1985. Walter enjoyed woodworking crafts. He was an involved member of Gesu Parish and the American Legion. Survivors include his daughters, Jackie (John) of Toledo and Margaret (Jim) Pifer of Hixson, TN; sister, Louise Nawrocki and many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents and brother, John Flowers. Family and friends are invited to visit from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, June 26th, in the Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 Sylvania Avenue. Visitation will also be held on Monday, June 27th, at Gesu Church from 9 a.m., until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Father Shaun Lowery, OSFS, will officiate. Interment, with military honors, will follow at Calvary Cemetery. A special thank you to the caregivers at Darlington Rehab Center and to the many residents who befriended him. Also, for the compassionate care rendered, a special thanks is given to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, to which tributes are suggested in lieu of flowers.
