John L. Elmore Obituary

On Sunday, August 25, 2019, John “Johnny” L. Elmore passed away at age 55.

Johnny was born on March 23, 1964, in Adrian, MI, to Allen and Carrie Elmore. He attended Scott High School in Toledo, Ohio, The University of Toledo, and Delaware Technical and Community College in Newark, DE.

Johnny always had a desire to minister to others. Johnny worked for The Northwestern Ohio Developmental Center and The Toledo Hospital before answering the call to ministry. Johnny relocated to Wilmington, DE, where he pastored congregants and inspired his community. While ministering in Delaware, Johnny worked for Christina Care Healthcare System for 23 years until his death.

Johnny accepted Christ in 1980 at the age of 16. He joined The True Church of God of the Apostolic Faith with his mother and quickly became engrained in the fabric of ministry. Being a gifted and anointed vocalist, Johnny served in the choir as member, vice president and president. He also recorded with the Youth and Young Adult Choir. Other gifts manifested, and Johnny was called to missionize and later deliver the word of God as an Evangelist, Deacon, and an Elder. He was an eloquent orator of the gospel and used his gifting to inspire and uplift the lives of many.

Johnny served his community as a volunteer chaplain, honorary “father”, “godfather”, “uncle” and “brother” to many. He loved to shop, converse, and recognized laughter as good for the soul. He was interested in the arts and enjoyed traveling. Most notably, he traveled to Michigan, South Carolina, Virginia, and Jamaica to minister, and Germany to visit his nephew. He also enjoyed mentoring the youth and promoted excellence.

Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, and he leaves to mourn his loss, five sisters and one brother, Shirley Wheeler, Suzanne (Jon) Henley, Lela Elmore, Allen (Stacy) Elmore, Carrie (Larry) Dillard, Pebbles Elmore, and special sister, Mary Daniel. He also left a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, extended family, his church family in Delaware and Ohio, the Christian Care Healthcare System family, Sonia Martinez-Colon (and family), his dedicated friend and caregiver, his neighbors and friends.

Pastor, Elder, Supervisor, Brother, Uncle, and Friends, you will be missed and forever loved.
