Walter Lee Thames Obituary

Walter Lee Thames Jr. was born on May 2, 1950 and passed away on Sunday January 5, 2020. He was born to Willie Lee Thames and Walter Thames Sr. and was a life-long resident in Toledo, Ohio. He was known by many names including, “Wolf”, Doctah, Tuti, and Wolfman. He graduated from Waite High School in 1968 and worked for Interlake Steel Corporation for many years before being hired at Jeep Motor Corporation where he worked for more than 40 years until he retired.

His hobbies included listening to old school music including, Temptations, O’Jays, Frankie Beverly and Maze, Marvin Gaye, Miles Davis and many others. He was a member of the Mason brotherhood. He also loved sports and would regularly place bets with his children on NFL/NBA games but was passionate about baseball which he played in High School. He had an arm that was out of this world and could throw a curve ball that you had to see to believe. He was also an umpire for many years after he quit playing baseball. He was a fishing enthusiast and would love to take his children with him however we didn’t love it as much as he did. Once he took his youngest daughter Jackie fishing and she accidentally threw the fishing pole in the water trying to cast it. If you know my father, he wasn’t pleased with that and said “Damn Jackie, that’s my good pole, you done lost yo mind”.

He was notorious for talking trash while simultaneously having his cigarette between his lips. If you knew him, you knew he had a larger than life personality, very witty with a hilarious sense of humor. He loved life and lived life to the fullest.

He has 9 siblings: Johnny Carswell (Deceased), Milton Carswell (Ginger), Deborah Gullatt (Em), Yvonne Hunter, Gloria, Marshall (deceased), Grady (deceased), Dwaine (Roxy) and Ricky (Kathy). Walter also had 7 children: Alayne (Camy), Felicia (Niki), Corinn Taylor, Amanda, Evan, Leah and Jackie. He had 15 grandchildren: Andrea Wright, Marissa Wright, Quintus Lee Wright, Patrick Munn, Justin Taylor, Phenom Munn, Diamond Thames, Anyia Thames, Christian Taylor, Ava Taylor, Trey Turner, Edward Price Jr., Naomi Thames, Heaven Lyn Jones (deceased), and Aubrey Thames. He also had 9 great grandchildren: Samiyah Gray, Jayden Gray, Kayden Gray, Victor Brown, Eva Brown, Timothy James Anderson, Jr. (Tutu), Patrick Munn Jr., Kingston Gary, and Ja’Layah Munn. He also is survived by a host of nieces, nephews and cousins’. We are blessed and thankful the lord saw fit to allow him to be our son, brother, uncle, cousin and father. WE ALL LOVE YOU!
