Wesley James Watson Obituary

Wesley James Watson Jr.

Sunrise 9/20/67 - Sunset 6/5/20

Wesley James Watson Jr., age 52 affectionately known as “Fat Man” by his close family and friends, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, June 5, 2020 at St. Anne’s Hospital with daughter Tiara by his side. Wesley attended DeVilbiss High School and was a graduate of Libbey High School. He also attended college at Wilberforce University.

Wesley worked at Toledo Hospital, Diamond’s Men’s Wear, and later worked at Lucas County Juvenile Detention Center.

He started church as an infant, with his mother Vivian Watson. Wesley accepted Christ at a very young age. Wesley was a member of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church. He loved attending church and singing in the choir he was passionate in singing for the Lord, he lead solos and had a great singing voice. Wesley refused to miss church and was an integral part of St. Mark’s. He supported the church at every function when he was able to be present. At an early age Wesley was a junior deacon, a member of the Recording Choir, Praise Team, worked at Fairside Community Center transporting the youth on field trips, he was a part of the custodial ministry, and assisted with the elderly, by transporting them to and from church. Wesley, also performed in Dramatically Inspired Works play, “A Second Chance b4 Christmas”, as an Ultra Sharp Angel, with a White Tux, and top hat with a blinged out cane. That character was never too far from his reality. I am sure we can all picture him in heaven just like that. Every Sunday with his Bible in hand, he was there. It was very rare that he missed church. He was a faithful member, he loved the church family and his pastor, Rev. C.L. Johnson, and the entire church loved him back. He also had a strong bond with the late Rev. I. J. Johnson (his preceding pastor) and became like a son to him.

Wesley was very detailed in his appearance and was always a sharp dresser, from head to toe. He had a heart and love for everyone. He not only loved the church but he loved his entire family, and friends dearly. He truly loved and adored his mother, they had a very strong bond. Wesley was truly a “momma’s boy” and everyone knew it. He loved his momma. Wesley also had a special bond with his Big Mama, she made sure that all of his cousins and siblings were raised up like brothers and sisters. Wesley loved being a big brother to his brothers, and his sisters. As kids Teresa and Wesley fought passionately, but they loved even harder and had each other’s back no matter what. Wesley loved and adored his daughter Tiara Watson and was so proud when he heard that she was having twin grandkids, his pride and joy, Amani and Amari who affectionately call him “Paw Paw”.

He is preceded in death by his father, Wesley Watson Sr., grandparents, Willett McCarver Sr., Peter Watson, Sr., Lora McCarver, Pearly Watson, and one Uncle Nathan McCarver.

Wesley leaves to cherish his loving daughter, Tiara Watson, grandson, Amari James Moore, granddaughter, Amani Lynn Moore, mother, Vivian Watson, step mother Marian Watson, brothers, Jonathan (Lori), Antoine Watson (Shenia ), JoJo Watson (Tashida), Two sisters Teresa (Victor) and Tamara. Six uncles, and eight aunts, Godfather Ronald Cook (Duck), and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.

He loved all of his cousins, but held a special place in his heart for his cousin LaDonna Watson.

Special friends: Benny O’Neil (Melody), Charles Dotson, Michael Johnson, Lewis Wilson, Pastor C.L. Johnson, Tony Boose, Marlon Neal, and many more.

Special Thanks to Brian Garrett, his brother/friend/caregiver, for his dedication, and love. The family of Wesley Watson will forever be thankful for your love and help.

Dedication to my dad Wesley James Watson, Jr.

You are forever in my heart…love you Always…Tiara Watson

“Special Hero”

When I was a baby,

You would hold me in your arms.

I felt the love and the tenderness, keeping me safe from harm.

I would look up into your eyes, and all the love I would see.

How did I get so lucky, you were the dad chosen for me.

There is something special about a father’s love.

Seems it was sent to me, from some place up above.

Our love is everlasting, I just wanted you to know.

That you’re my special hero and I wanted to tell you so.
