Mass of Christian Burial for Bernadine A. “Bonnie” Miles, 94, of Willoughby, will be at 9 AM on Saturday, July 2, 2016 at Saint John Vianney Catholic Church, 7575 Bellflower Road, Mentor. Please meet directly at the Church on Saturday morning. The Rev. Clyde K. Foster will officiate at the Mass.

Mrs. Miles passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at Mapleview Country Villa in Chardon.

Born January 8, 1922 in Eau Claire, WI, she was a resident of Willoughby and Willoughby Hills for 37 years, previously residing in Mentor for 32 years.

Bonnie loved the outdoors and sports and bowled in several leagues. She also played golf and enjoyed the Holden Arboretum, especially the Little Mountain hikes.

Before enlisting in the United States Navy, she was a ballistician for the U.S. Rubber Company in Eau Claire, WI. After completing training at Hunter College in New York City and Cedar Falls State College in Iowa, she came to Cleveland to work in the Bureau of Supplies and Accounts in Management and Accounting. She was a Yeoman First Class and received numerous awards and commendations, including one for expert marksmanship. She was also a charter member of the Women’s Memorial in Arlington, VA.

On January 9, 1946, she married Captain James F. Miles, U.S.A.F. and resided in Euclid for a short time as her husband was recalled service at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton and Brookley Air Force Base in Mobile, AL during the Korean Conflict.

Survivors are her beloved children, Dianne Beseda of Mentor, Dave (Barbara) Miles of Thompson and Don (Cher) Miles of Concord; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and sister, Joanne (William) Perham of Greenfield, WI. She also leaves her sister-in-law Shirley Kremer of Cadot, WI and many nieces and nephews and their families.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Captain James Miles on March 29, 1984. Her parents, John Sr. and Rose (Uetz) Kremer and siblings, Beatrice Werlein, Catherine Blodgett, Naomi Gunderson, Rosemary Dopkins, John Jr., Donald and Gerald Kremer are also deceased.

The family will receive friends from 4-7 PM on Friday, July 1, 2016 at Davis-Babcock Funeral Home, 4154 Clark Avenue, Willoughby. Final resting place will be in Mentor Cemetery following the Mass on Saturday.
