Obituary
Memorial services for Beverly Whelan, 74, of Eastlake, will be at 1:30 PM on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at Davis-Babcock Funeral Home, 4154 Clark Avenue, Willoughby.
The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 1:30 PM on Saturday, prior to the service.
Mrs. Whelan passed away October 17, 2017 near her daughter’s home in Columbus.
Born December 28, 1942 in Cleveland, Ohio, she has lived in Eastlake for the past 51 years.
She showed unconditional love to her children, and great kindness to family, friends and animals. She was always willing to help in any way she could. She worked hard her entire life in sales, real estate and then lastly as the Director of Transportation for Beachwood City Schools.
Mom could fix almost anything. After retiring she did a variety of work for extra money including dog-sitting, lawn mower tune-ups, tax returns, spring yard clean-up and loved to play board games and spend time with her family, especially with her grandsons.
Bev was an animal rights activist, belonging to several animal rights groups including PETA, SPCA and the Humane Society. She protested for animal rights and wrote several newspaper articles to raise awareness about animal cruelty and humane options.
Survivors are her children, David Whelan and Wendy (Michael) Dickson; grandsons, Kyle and Cameron Dickson and siblings, Cliff Shorf, Marilyn (Flavio) Ferenac, Elaine Wiegand, 5 nephews and 5 nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Anne (Wanco) Shorf; sister, Diane Heldman and brother-in-law, Ken Wiegand.
