Brett passed away Saturday, May 12, 2012 at Hospice House in Cleveland, surrounded by his family Born June 21, 1958 in Marion, Ohio, grew up in the Marion area and spent much of his youth hunting with his father and brother, including bear hunts in Canada. He has lived in Willoughby Hills for the past 14 years. Our big hearted, big boned all American served in the United States Army in the 2/64 Armor, 3rd Infantry Division, B troop, 1/3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, stationed in Germany in the early 1980's. He began as a tank gunner and was a tank commander with the rank of sergeant upon being honorably discharged. He tended to work in industry throughout his life. An avid historian, he participated as a Civil War re-enactor in the 8th Ohio. He "fought" in many battles, including Franklin, Antietam and Gettysburg. He also became the family genealogist, researching his various ancestors. The last few years he became a fan of country music and had a knack of winning tickets for big-name concerts, to which he took his children. He is survived by his wife Lu Ann; son, Andrew; daughter, Marissa; and brothers Rick Key (Denise Johnston) of St. Augustine, Fla., and Tony Brown of Marion, Ohio, and several cousins and their families. His parents, Richard Key and Patricia Brown (nee Bacon), and also an infant daughter preceded him in death. Brett will be remembered always for his laughter, his empathy and compassion for social causes (and politics), and especially his loyalty to family and friends. He is impossible to replace. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at Davis-Babcock Funeral Home, 4154 Clark Avenue, Willoughby. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
