Graveside services for Crayton W. Mast, 84, of Timberlake, will be at 1 PM on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at Whitehaven Memorial Park, 615 SOM Center Road, Mayfield Village. Pastor Tim French of Kirtland Christian Fellowship will officiate at the service. <br><br>Mr. Mast passed away Saturday, April 5, 2014 at Hospice House in Cleveland.<br><br>Born June 12, 1929 in Cleveland, he lived in Euclid for 14 years, before moving to Timberlake in 1958.<br><br>He was a member of the First Class inducted into the Euclid High School Sports Hall of Fame in 1987. At Shore High School in Euclid, he earned letters in football, wrestling and track. As a fullback, he was team captain and made All-Conference two years. In his senior year, he was chosen to the Greater Cleveland All-Scholastic team. In 1946, Crayton was the state shot put champion. In 1947, he placed second in the state wrestling tournament at 186 pounds. <br><br>Crayton went on to Fullerton College of UCLA where he participated in football, wrestling and track. He was an All-Conference guard in football. In 1952 and 1953, he was a star fullback with an army team which toured the country playing a college and service schedule. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, from 1951-1953 and then several years in the Army Reserves. He enjoyed golf and was an active supporter of sports at Eastlake North High School for many years.<br><br>Mr. Mast was employed as a packaging engineer at the former Fisher Body Division of General Motors on Coit Road in Cleveland. He retired in 1986 after 33 years of service. <br><br>Survivors are his wife of 59 years, Martha (Patmore) Mast; children, Lisa (Daniel) Foster of Chagrin Falls, Linda (Dennis) Magda of Willoughby and David Mast of Timberlake; grandchildren, Mark, Alex and Brian Foster and Cheyenne and Charity Magda; sister, Audrey Dalton of West Palm Beach, FL and brother, Robert Mast of Willowick.<br><br>He was preceded in death by his parents, Arlis and Lucille Mast. <br><br>The family will receive friends from 5-8 PM on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at Davis-Babcock Funeral Home, 4154 Clark Avenue, Willoughby. <br><br>In lieu of flowers, the family encourages contributions to Hospice of the Western Reserve, Inc., 17876 St. Clair Avenue, Cleveland, OH 44110-2602 or your favorite charity. <br>
