Funeral service for David L. Abercrombie Sr., 89, of Mentor, will be 10 AM Friday, January 11, 2019 at Davis-Babcock Funeral Home, 4154 Clark Ave., Willoughby.<br><br>Family will receive friends 5-8 PM Thursday, January 10, 2019 at the funeral home.<br><br>David passed away January 7, 2019. He was born May 10, 1929 in Morganton, Georgia. <br><br>David retired from Reighart Steel in Willoughby in 1994 as a foreman fitter-welder. <br><br>A proud U.S. Army Veteran of the Third Infantry, David served in the Korean War during 1951-1952. He received a Bronze Star and the Korean Service Medal. <br><br>He was an avid gardener and bee keeper. He also enjoyed spending time with family. <br><br>The family would like to say a special thank you to Laurie for all her help and support.<br><br>Survivors include his children, Phyllis (Gery) Safranek and Clark (Karen) Abercrombie; step-daughters, Linda Abercrombie and Charlotte (Chris) Dingley; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandson; siblings, Kathleen, Virginia, Margie, and Harold. <br><br>He was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Katie Abercrombie and 2nd wife, Mildred Abercrombie; sons, David L. Abercrombie Jr. and Michael Abercrombie; siblings, Ernest, Parker, Bobby, Della, Bill, and Sarah. His parents, Ivan and Juanita (Parker) Abercrombie and his step-mother, Connie Abercrombie are also deceased.<br><br>Final resting place will be in Perry Twp. Cemetery.<br><br>Family suggests contributions be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 17876 St. Clair Ave., Cleveland OH 44110.<br>
