The family of Harry J. "Chip" Kissinger, 66, of Kirtland, will host an open house to celebrate his life on Saturday, September 1, 2012 from 12:30 until 3:30 PM at Dino's Restaurant and Banquet Center, 4145 State Route 306, Willoughby. The restaurant is located adjacent to the Days Inn, just south of Interstate 90 at exit number 193. Mr. Kissinger passed away Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at his home, surrounded by loved ones. There will be no calling hours at the funeral home. A private family graveside service will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages contributions to The Diabetes Association in Harry's name. Born June 28, 1946 in East Cleveland and has lived in Kirtland for more than 40 years. He was a United States Navy veteran and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7754 in Fairport Harbor. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed hunting, playing video poker, traveling to the Outer Banks of North Carolina and Atlantic City and was also a lifelong Cleveland Indians and Browns fan. Mr. Kissinger was employed by the former Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company beginning as a lineman and retiring as an inspector. He retired in 2003 after 32 years of service. He is survived by his high-school sweetheart and wife of 46 years, Jeanne (Zarbock) of Kirtland; sons, Joseph (Ashley) Kissinger of Chicago, IL and Scott (Rochelle) Kissinger of Kirtland; granddaughters, Amber and Samantha, of Kirtland, who were the light of his life; brothers, Robert (Jan) Kissinger of Virginia Beach, VA and James Kissinger of Fullerton, CA; sisters-in-law, Joyce (Tom) Wilson of Madison and Jane (Doug) Dedek of North Perry. He also leaves several nieces and nephews and their families and his best friend and caregiver, Robert Schnaufer of Kirtland as well as many close friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Joyce Ann Kissinger; his parents, Harry and Margaret (Lays) Kissinger and sister-in-law, Dawn Kissinger. The family would like to extend a special thank you to CDC Mentor for their compassion and care over the past several years.
