Services for James H. Elmore, II, 64, of Willoughby, will be at 11 AM Friday, October 12, 2012 at Willoughby United Methodist Church, 15 Public Square, Willoughby. The Rev. Donald R. Perks will officiate at the service. Mr. Elmore passed away Sunday, October 7, 2012 at his home. Born February 26, 1948 in Painesville, he has lived in Willoughby for the past 52 years. Jim was a member of Willoughby United Methodist Church and the Greater Cleveland Soccer Officials Association, where he served as an official and game assignor. He was a member of RSVP of Lake County and was also a former announcer at Willoughby South High School basketball games. He served as president of the Willoughby Soccer Club and the Willoughby Stingers Swim Team. He enjoyed family gatherings, soccer, traveling, music and visiting casinos. Jim served in the United States Navy from 1967-1971 in the Tonkin Gulf aboard the USS Constellation during the Vietnam era. Mr. Elmore earned his Associates Degree in Fire Technology at Lakeland Community College and served as a Lieutenant for the Mentor Fire Department. He retired in 2002 after 30 years of service. Survivors are his wife of 45 years, Marilyn (Gittings) Elmore; children, James H. (Joyce) Elmore, III of University Heights and Kristin (Rich) Smith of Willoughby; grandchildren, Megan and Vincent; brother, John Elmore of Peculiar, MO and sister, Candy (Doug) Sulzbach of Painesville. He also leaves his brothers-in-law, Bob (Sandy) Gittings and Mike Gittings; sister-in-law, Susan Acton and mother-in-law, Sally Gittings; nieces, Pam, Jessica, Mallory and Emma; two great nieces and three great nephews. His parents, James H. and Betty (Neely) Elmore, brother, Dennis Elmore and father-in-law, Howard Gittings are deceased. The family will receive friends from 1-3 and 5-8 PM on Thursday, October 11, 2012 at Davis-Babcock Funeral Home, 4154 Clark Avenue, Willoughby. Private family burial will be at Western Reserve Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages contributions to Hospice of the Western Reserve, Inc., 17876 St. Clair Avenue, Cleveland, OH 44110-2602 or The Susan Cohan Colon Cancer Foundation,201 North Charles Street, Baltimore, MD 21201. James also gave the Gift of Sight through eye donation.
