Jean Louise Bailis Obituary

Memorial services for Jean L. Bailis, 90, of Willoughby, will be at 2 PM on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at The First Presbyterian Church of Willoughby, 4785 Shankland Road, Willoughby.

Mrs. Bailis died Tuesday, October 10, 2017, at ¬Governor’s Pointe in Mentor.

She was born October 31, 1926, in Canton. She was a member of The First Presbyterian Church of Willoughby since 1962, where she served as a Sunday school teacher, deacon, and session member. She participated in The Mary Martha Circle of Presbyterian Women and for many years served as a worker in the church library.

Jean was a graduate of Kent State University with degrees in Liberal Arts (1950) and Education (1972). She was employed as a caseworker by the Stark County Welfare Department from 1950 -1954 and the Lake County Welfare Department from 1955 - 1958. She was an elementary school teacher for the Willoughby-Eastlake School System for 20 years, retiring in 1992.

Jean enjoyed reading good books and took special pleasure in her grandchildren and their interests. She was a member of the Lake County Retired Teachers Association, the KSU Alumni Association (local chapter), and the Burroughs Nature Club.

Survivors are her sons, Mark (Colleen) Bailis of Twinsburg and Scott (Becky) Bailis of Mentor; grandchildren, Daniel Bailis, Kelsey and Rachel Bailis; brother-in-law, Sherwin Snyder of Scottsdale, Arizona; niece, Claudia (Mark) Mills of Prairie Village, Kansas, nephew, David (Susan) Snyder of Chicago, plus 3 great-nephews and 2 great-nieces.

Her parents, Harry and Bessie Miller, and her sister Dorothy Snyder are deceased.

There will be no calling hours.

The Rev. S. Shane Nanney will officiate at the services. Final resting place will be in the Columbarium beside the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to The First Presbyterian Church of Willoughby.
