John L. Pogany

The family of John L. Pogany will receive friends from 5-8 PM on Friday, July 1, 2016 at Davis-Babcock Funeral Home, 4154 Clark Avenue, Willoughby.<br><br>Mr. Pogany passed away Saturday, June 25, 2016 at Ahuja Medical Center in Beachwood.<br><br>Born March 14, 1923 in Kirtland, he was a lifelong Lake County resident. <br><br>He was affiliated with Eastshore Unitarian Universalist Church in Kirtland. He earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Kent State University and was a member of the Willoughby Hills Bridge Club. Mr. Pogany also served in the United States Army during World War II, attached to the 44th Infantry Division of the 63rd Combat Engineers. Corporal Pogany was honorably discharged in November 1945. <br><br>Mr. Pogany was a teacher at Kirtland High School and also at Memorial Junior High School in South Euclid. He retired in 1980. <br><br>Survivors are his children, Jack Pogany, Susan Pogany and Mark (Carol) Pogany and sisters, Cynthia Pogany and Penny Moore. He also leaves many nieces and nephews and their families.<br><br>He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Pogany in 1997 and his second wife, Coletta Pogany in 2009. His parents, John and Mary (Fodor) Pogany; sister, Cornelia Baker; brother, Lorant and twin brothers, Martin and Robert Pogany are also deceased.<br><br>In lieu of flowers, the family encourages contributions to The Eastshore Unitarian Universalist Church, 10848 Chillicothe Road, Kirtland, OH 44094.<br><br>To light a candle or send a condolence to the family, please visit www.davisbabcock.com <br><br><br><br>
