Services for Kenneth R. Whidden, 84, of Mentor, will be 10 AM on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 8751 Chillicothe Road, Kirtland. Bishop Dan Regovich will officiate at the service.

Mr. Whidden passed away Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at his home with his family.

Born March 2, 1930 in Glenelg, Nova Scotia, he has lived in Lake County for the past 42 years.

He was a graduate of the former Western Reserve University in Cleveland, served as a Major in the United States Air Force and worked as a nurse for 49 years. He retired from the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in 1996.

He spent his retirement enjoying gardening, working crossword puzzles, reading the Classics, attending the theatre and Cleveland Indians games. He was also an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Lake County Historical Society.

Survivors are his wife of 54 years, Barbara (Klein) Whidden; Wendy (Dave) and Scott (Sonia); grandchildren,
Shauna (Sarah); Ben (Tiffany); Jerimia; Morgan (Jeff); Dustin; Logan and Lindsay; five great-grandchildren, including the light of his last year, Ronan, 12 months of age; siblings, Homer of Calgary, Alberta; Mary of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia and Harold (Wanda) of New Glasgow, Nova Scotia. He also leaves several nieces and nephews and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Aldon and Margaret (Sutherland); siblings, Anna, Barbara and Hugh.

The family will receive friends from 2-4, 6-8 PM on Friday, October 3, 2014 at Davis-Babcock Funeral Home, 4154 Clark Avenue, Willoughby and from 9-10 AM at the Church prior to the service on Saturday. Final resting place will be in North Kirtland Cemetery, following the service.
