Marna M. Eppler Obituary

Marna Mansfield Eppler, 81, passed from this world on Thursday, November 5, 2015 after an extended illness.

Marna was born in Ashley, Ohio on April 9, 1934.

Marna was an advocate of education. She graduated as Co-Valedictorian from New Philadelphia High School in 1952. She studied English at Baldwin Wallace College, graduating with honors in 1956. She joined Phi Mu sorority and it was at Baldwin Wallace where she met her future and beloved husband of 59 years, Ronald E. Eppler. She went on to teach high school government and later was a private tutor for Bedford schools. Throughout the 1970s, Marna worked as staff assistant at the Painesville United Methodist Church. During that time she became President of the Lake County chapter of the American Association of University Women. Marna was involved with teaching Sunday school, singing in the choir as well as being active in United Methodist Women. Marna was an avid reader and loved to spend her free time painting with water colors.

In addition to her professional positions in education and at Painesville UMC, she partnered with Ron to serve many churches and entities of the United Methodist Church including the First Church Baldwin, Baldwin, NY (1959); Trinity, Youngstown, OH (1961); Cardington UMC, Cardington, OH (1965); Trinity, Chesterland, OH (1969); Painesville UMC*, Painesville, OH (1972); Lower Salem UMC, Pleasant Hill UMC and Harrietsville UMC all in Harrison County (all 1984); The Mansfield District (now Mid-Ohio District) (1987); Bedford UMC, Bedford, OH (1992); Mentor UMC, Mentor, OH (1998). In retirement, Ron & Marna moved to the Wesleyan Village in Elyria in 2006

Marna is remembered as a compassionate wife, mother and friend. She cared about the people around her and often went out of her way to be sure that others were touched with kindness.

Marna leaves behind her husband, Ronald Eugene Eppler; her twin sister, Myrna Mansfield Allshouse; her older brother, John Mansfield; her children Jennifer, Craig (Laurie) and Leslie. She is the beloved grandmother of five grandchildren Seth, Sasha, Christopher, Sean and Caelyn and three great-grandchildren, Aurora, Lucien and Cartier James. She is preceded in death by her parents, The Rev. Eugene and Ila Mansfield.

A memorial Service will be held at the Wesleyan Village Cascade Hall, 807 West Ave, Elyria, OH (440) 284-9000, Sunday, December 6, 2015 – Calling Hours beginning at 4:30 PM, service at 5:15 PM followed with a reception.
