Memorial services for Richard J. Davis, 88, of Mentor-on-the-Lake, will be at 10 AM on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at Saint Andrew Episcopal Church, 7989 Little Mountain Road, Kirtland Hills.

The family will receive friends from 1-3, 5-8 PM on Friday, March 11, 2016 at Davis-Babcock Funeral Home, 4154 Clark Avenue, Willoughby, where Masonic services will be conducted by brethren and friends of Acacia Lodge 651 F. & A.M. at 6 PM.

Mr. Davis passed away Monday, March 7, 2016 at Hospice of Medina County in Medina.

Born June 26, 1927 in Detroit, MI, he has lived in Mentor-on-the-Lake for almost 40 years, before moving to the Western Reserve Masonic Community in Medina in January.

He was an active member of Saint Andrew Episcopal Church and a World War II United States Navy veteran. He was raised in the former Charles T. Raymer Lodge #683 F. & A.M. on June 22, 1970, where he served as Master of the lodge in 1976, 1981, 1990 and 1991. He received his degrees in the Valley of Cleveland, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite and was also a member of Rising Sun Chapter 190 Royal Arch Masons, now Mount Olive Chapter 189 Royal Arch Masons. He was also a member of Willoughby Chapter 202 Order of the Eastern Star, where he served as Patron in 1984, 1988, 1991, 1999, 2002 and 2009.

Mr. Davis was appointed District Education Officer for the 22nd Masonic District in 1983, 1984, 1985 and 1986 and served as District Deputy Grand Master in 1987, 1988 and 1989. He was appointed as a Trustee of the Masonic Library Board in 2002 and continued serving in that role until his death. He was also elected to the State Secretaries Association in 2001 where he served as President in 2005. Dick joined the greeters committee in 1990-1991 and was awarded a Meritorious Service Award from the Valley of Cleveland in 2005.

He also had worked on the Stage Committee since becoming a Sublime Prince until 1983 when he was appointed as the District Education Officer. He was a member of the Robertson Fellowcraft Team for many years and served as appointed secretary of Halcyon Lodge from 2007-2010 when the Halcyon brethren were merged into Raymer-Covenant Lodge 683. He was the secretary for Raymer-Covenant Lodge 683 for 18 years and served as DAD advisor for the Willoughby DeMolay. He was awarded an Honorary Legion of Honor in 1989.

Mr. Davis was a member of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 880. A meat cutter by trade, he worked for the former Fisher Foods, Fazio’s Stop-n-Shop and retired from Giant Eagle. He retired in 1989 after more than 35 years of service.

Survivors are his wife of 39 years, Donna Lea (Hamilton) Davis; sons, Ken and Matt (Karen) Davis; daughter, Lori Novinc; step-sons, Brian (Liz) and Roger (Patti) Lago; step-daughter, Debbie (Doug) Dittebrand; 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; brother, Donald (Rose) Davis and sisters, Nila Miller and Ethel Fairchild. He also leaves many nieces and nephews and their families.

He was preceded in death by his son, Jeff Davis in 1994 and his parents John and Lucile (Bogardus) Davis. His brothers, Vern and James Davis and sisters, Bonnie Amoroso and Marion Clark are also deceased.
