Richard N Shaw

Richard "Dick" Nelson Shaw passed away peacefully on February 19, 2015, at Hospice House in Cleveland at the grand age of 96 surrounded by his family. <br><br>He was born on July 21, 1918, in Niagara Falls, New York to Edward and Grace Shaw, and was one of three children. <br><br>In September, 1941, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and was stationed at Greenville Army Airfield in Greenville, Mississippi where he met and married the love of his life, Mickey. He served as a Warrant Officer in Photo Intelligence, 9th Photo Tech, 20th Air Force during World War II from 1941-1946 and was stationed on Guam for two years.<br><br>After serving in the Army, Mr. Shaw worked in sales for various companies, the majority of his sales career being with Reynolds Metals Co., managing a three state area. In 1974 he and his wife Mickey established Shaw Hardware on Lost Nation Rd in Willoughby, Ohio, serving the home handyman community until the store sold in 1983.<br><br>Mr. Shaw was an active member of Willoughby Kiwanis, Willoughby VFW Post #1500 and attended Mentor Plains United Methodist Church. After retirement Mr. Shaw and his wife enjoyed travel, winters in Florida, and spending time with their family. <br><br>He leaves behind his children, Jerry N. Shaw of West Covina, CA, Jeanne (Marty) Roth of Westerville, Lori (David) Truitt of Gahanna, and Terry (Sharon) Shaw of Mentor; as well as sister-in-laws, Sue Tutt of Memphis, TN and Jenny (Jack) Henderson of Greenville, Miss. He also leaves behind 12 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and nine nieces and nephews. <br><br>He is preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Muriel J. Shaw "Mickey"; and grandaughter, Jessica Ann Roose. <br><br>Friends and family are invited to help celebrate Dick's life at a Memorial Reception held at Mentor Plains United Methodist Church, 7271 Lakeshore Blvd. on Saturday, March 7 from 4 to 6 p.m. <br><br>The family requests in lieu of flowers that contributions be made in Mr. Shaw's memory to: Hospice of The Western Reserve 17876 St. Clair Ave. Cleveland, Ohio 44110 <br>
