Obituary for Robert Reichard

Funeral services for Robert W. Reichard, 88, of Willoughby, will be at 10 AM Thursday, March 3, 2011 at The First Christian Church of Willoughby, 4249 River Street, Willoughby. Mr. Reichard passed away Friday, February 25, 2011 at Lake West Hospital in Willoughby after a brief Illness. Born January 10, 1923 in Jewitt, OH, a son of Warren J. and Lida (McLaughlin) Reichard, he and his wife raised their family in Euclid, and then lived in Mentor for many years moving to Breckenridge Village in Willoughby. Mr. Reichard fully enjoyed his life at Breckenridge Village where he participated in and led various programs. He was active member of The First Christian Church of Willoughby and the Willoughby (Browning) Senior Center. He maintained an enthusiasm for life by exercising both his body and his mind. He rode his recumbent cycle until a week before his death. He loved to tell stories drawn from his vast knowledge of history and of the Bible, as well as from his own life. He was well-loved by his family and friends for whom he always had a warm greeting and hearty hug. Mr. Reichard worked most of his professional career as a production executive at the Leece Neville Company in Cleveland. For ten years he taught managerial courses at the Cuyahoga Community College. In 1975, he became a certified Lay Minister and served several churches in Lake County as interim minister. He is lovingly remembered by his son, Jeffrey (Diane) Reichard of Phoenix, AZ; his daughter Karen (Larry) Lapidus of Poland, OH; his granddaughters, Jody (James) Mierzejewski of North Ridgeville, OH and Ann (William Bobbitt) Lapidus of Pittsburgh, PA; great-grandchildren, Dylan, Hannah, Kyla and Ashlyn Mierzejewski. He also leaves several nieces, a nephew and many, many friends. His beloved wife of 57 years Betty J. (Sallach) Reichard, passed away October 30, 2002.. His sisters, Gaynelle Stewart, Roeine Rowland, Genevra Reichard, Elizabeth Rogers and Marjorie Baldwin and his brother, Howard Reichard, are also deceased..
The family will receive friends from 3-7 PM Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at Davis-Babcock Funeral Home, 4154 Clark Avenue, Willoughby. The Rev. Richard D. Norton of the First Christian Church of Willoughby will officiate at the service. Final resting place will be in Mentor Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Mr. Reichard had requested that contributions be made to the Salvation Army of Lake County, 69 Pearl Street, Painesville, OH 44077.
