Graveside services and interment for Robert A. Young, 87, of Mentor, will be 11 AM Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at Acacia Park Cemetery, 1880 SOM Center Road, Mayfield Heights. Mr. Young passed away Sunday, March 18, 2012 at Altercare of Mentor in Concord Township. Born May 1, 1924 in Cleveland, he was a longtime Willoughby resident before retiring to central Florida where he lived for 20 years, returning to Lake County in 2009 residing in Mentor. He was a former Special Police Officer in Willoughby, a member of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elk, Cleveland-Willoughby Lodge 18 and Lyndhurst Lodge 508 Free and Accepted Masons. He also had served in the United States Merchant Marine during World War II and was an avid golfer and loved to travel. Mr. Young was employed as a tool and die maker at the former Martin-Marietta Corporation before his retirement. He is survived by his children, Dianne Ford of Santa Clara, UT; Michael (Shirley) Young of Painesville; Donna (Dave) Mason of Mentor and Sandy (Larry) Staton of Lakeline Village; 21 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren. His wife of 60 years, Ann (Glow) Young passed away October 15, 2006. His parents, Jacob R. and Florinda (Schron) Young, one sister and two brothers are also deceased. The family will receive friends from 4-7 PM Tuesday at the Davis-Babcock Funeral Home, 4154 Clark Avenue, Willoughby. Final resting place will be in Acacia Park Cemetery, Mayfield Heights. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages contributions to Hospice of the Western Reserve, Inc., 17876 St. Clair Avenue, Cleveland, OH 44110.
