The family will receive friends at the Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home in Enid on Sunday, April 16, 2017, from 3:00 to 4:00 PM. Robert was born April 10, 1928 in Rose Hill, Mississippi, the son of Stewart and Margaret Downey Moody, and passed away April 9, 2017. He was veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. Robert was united in marriage to Rose “Ramelle” Lane on July 8, 1951 in Silver Creek, Mississippi. She preceded him in death on July 20, 2008. He then married Doris Smith on March 21, 2009 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The son of a Methodist minister, Robert followed his father’s footsteps and served as a United Methodist minister for 49 years, pastoring churches in Caseyville, Montrose, and Vaughn in Mississippi; and Nardin, Coalgate, Lindsay, Bixby, Beaver, Bristow, and Sulphur in Oklahoma. He retired from the Methodist ministry in 1998. While at Sulphur, he administrated the merging of two Methodist church congregations and construction of a new Sulphur United Methodist Church building for the new congregation. Through his career, he was an active member of the Lion’s and Rotary Clubs in the communities he served, as well as a Cub Scout leader wherever needed, and an enthusiastic church youth camp counselor. He dedicated his life to serving others and will be remembered for his love and compassion to friends and strangers alike. Robert was an avid golfer and bicyclist, among many other activities. He took up running in the very early days of the aerobics movement and went on to complete half-marathons and a full marathon in his fitness pursuits. He loved to travel and spend time with his family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Doris; his daughters, Marla Patterson of Tulsa and Kerri Shiflett (Bill) of Lenexa, Kansas; son, Andy Moody (Laura) of Corpus Christi, Texas; daughter-in-law January Moody of Bixby, Oklahoma; stepsons, Edwin Smith (Rosemary) of Amarillo, Texas and Gary Smith of Wakita, Oklahoma; grandchildren Adam Patterson (Jennifer), Robert Patterson, Jentry Hamilton (Joshua), Nathan Moody (Ashley), and Courtney Simmons (Ryan), and three great-grandchildren; step-grandchildren Tiffany York (Chris), Lindsey Irlbeck (Darren), and Samantha Clover, and five step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Chestine Wilkins (Ollie) of Slidell, Louisiana and Betty Smith of Marks, Mississippi; and his beloved nieces and nephew.
