Betty (Fritz ) Whiting, 79, of Oklahoma City passed away Wednesday, May 27th, 2020 at Norman Regional Healthplex. A native of Henryetta, OK, Betty was born to Robert and Elizabeth (Guthrie) Fritz. Betty graduated from Henryetta High School in 1958. Not long after high school, Betty went on to attend Oklahoma State University where she was a member of the OSU Marching Band and graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education. In 1960 Betty met the love of her life, Cliff Whiting and they were married in 1960. They were blessed with two children Debbie and Clay. Cliff and Betty both worked hard to provide for their family. In 1962 Betty began her teaching career in Liberty, Kansas. In 1963 she began teaching with Oklahoma City Public Schools at Stand Watie Elementary. She retired in 2000 from Stand Watie. During her 40 year tenure there she made many friends and lasting memories. Betty was involved with Cleveland County Democratic Women, the Oklahoma Horticulture Society and was a longtime OEA representative. Betty loved gardening, traveling and reading. Family was very important to Betty and she loved listening to her grandchildren share their daily experiences and stories. She shared a unique bond with her grandchildren and even learned to text message to stay connected. Betty was preceded in death by her: Husband, Clifford Whiting; Parents, Robert and Elizabeth Fritz. Betty is survived by her: Daughter, Debbie Smith and her husband, Duane; Son, Clay Whiting and his wife, Holly; Sister, Carol Hardesty of Tulsa, OK; 8 Grandchildren: Austin Smith, Blaine Smith, Amanda Whiting, Daniel Whiting & wife Ashley, Jessica Wild & husband Alex, Rachel Hire and husband Jacob, Winston Whiting and Elizabeth Whiting; 1 Great Grandson, Bastion Whiting Many cousins, nieces, & nephews as well as many extended loving family and friends.
