Claudean Burns

Visitation will be Saturday November 16, 2019 from 4-8 PM and Sunday November 17, 2019 from 12-8 PM with family greeting friends from 2-4 PM at Vondel Smith Mortuary at South Lakes. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, November 18, 2019 at Vondel Smith Mortuary at South Lakes Chapel. Claudean Burns entered Heaven's gates on November 14, 2019 at the age of 88. She was born at home in Tuskahoma, Oklahoma on October 29, 1931, the 5th of 12 children born to W R and Onnie (Carlton) Kirkes. Claudean lived in Southeast Oklahoma in her youth, and attended school in a one-room school building, later graduating from Buffalo Valley High School (Talihina, OK) where she was a basketball standout. She moved to Oklahoma City where she began working, her lifelong delight. A blind date was arranged by the parents of Joe Burns, who became the love of her life. Joe proposed on their first date, but she didn't accept for another month. The two began a life together, raising their two children. Claudean worked as an Accounts Receivable Manager at Mistletoe Express for over 20 years. She retired from the workforce in 2008 after working another 17 years at a job she loved, in accounts receivable for Power Equipment & Engineering. She was only happy in retirement for about 6 months, wishing forever after could return to working. Claudean was an avid sports lover, but especially OU sports, enthusiastically cheering for every OU basketball and football game. This became a weekly ritual for Dennis and his mother, while Erann attended all the home, and some away games. Claudean was a member of First Baptist Church in Moore, Oklahoma. She loved her family, and will be eternally missed by them. Claudean is preceded in death by her parents, W R (William) and Onie Kikes her brothers, Greely, Grady, Roy (John), M.C.,and Crocket her sisters, Francis Iwana and Louise Meddars Claudean is survived by her daughter Twylia McMeans and husband Roy, son, Dennis Burns her granddaughters Erann Burns and Morgan Rodriguez and her husband Michael her great granddaughters Mia, Mericelli, and Maleah Rodriguez her brother Wayland Kirkes and wife Kay; and her sisters Cannie Goodson, Zella Trowbridge and husband Carroll, and Bevery Pannach as well as many dearly loved nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and dear friends
