Justin Gandy Obituary

Justin Aron Edward Gandy, "New York", 21, of Grants Pass passed from this life on Monday, May 16th, 2011 at his home in Grants Pass. Celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, May 26th, 2011 at 6:00 PM at Stephens Family Chapel with Pastor James Downing officiating In lieu of flowers his family requests contributions be made to The New Visions Memorial Scholarship to be set up in his name at BOCES in Elmira NY, or Brighton Academy 1121 NE 7th Street, Grants Pass, OR 97526 in gratitude for the support they have shown. Justin was born on March 16th in Grants Pass. He was the much cherished son of Ron and Carrie Gandy, the super big brother of Catie, who he affectionately called "bug". He attended Fort Vannoy Elementary and Brighton Academy before moving to upstate NY, much to his chagrin, in 1999. He attended Hanlon Elementary and Odessa-Montour High School in Odessa, NY where he graduated with honors in June 2008. Justin was an exceptional student winning state public presentation awards in fourth and fifth grade, and trophies for presentation at Lego Robotics Competitions held at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA in sixth and seventh grade. At age twelve he was the youngest tour guide for the National Warplane Museum in Horseheads, NY. He participated in the Corning Museum of Glass Young Curators Program. He had been invited back to Corning this summer as a Representative of the program for the Museum's 60th Anniversary Celebration. He lettered in Golf in High School, and participated in the theatre program throughout school, having lead roles in Mark Twain, The Music Man, Fiddler on the Roof, Oklahoma, and Footloose. He was a phenomenal singer, and talented actor. Throughout his life he loved Legos, Star Wars (may the force be with him) and was a Master Oakley Collector trading with persons from around the world. When he had a passion for something he focused it intently. From the time he was very young he loved anything that moved fast. He loved trains and airplanes (knew more facts about planes and helicopters than his mom and dad who were both air traffic controllers), rollercoasters and go-karts, and ultimately CARS became his passion. He enjoyed detailing cars and studying cars and sharing everything automotive. His friends have told many stories of his quest for perfection in keeping his own car immaculate. Justin returned with his family to Grants Pass in 2008 and briefly attended SOU and RCC. He worked as a detailer at Wheeler Toyota, then as a tour guide at Wildlife Images in summer 2009. He was the vice president of Rogue Valley Innovations Inc.; his parent newly formed company, and was responsible for web development and assembly. He was loved by all who knew him, and will be SO missed.... In addition to his immediate family Justin is survived by his stepsisters Dawna of Brookings, OR, and Audra of St. Louis, MO Grandmother Betty Gandy of Grants Pass, Grandfather Leon Stawasz of York, Maine. and numerous Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins in Grants Pass, New York, Maine and Texas. We pray he finds peace and that there are BMW's in heaven....
