Blane H. Hagen Obituary

Blane Hubert Hagen died June 26th, 2020 at the age of 78, at the Hood River Care Center in Hood River Oregon. He was born June 30th, 1941 in Hood River to Blenda and Carl Hagen. He was the second of two sons. Blane was raised in Hood River and lived on Elliot Drive most of his life. He graduated from Hood River Valley High School, where he enjoyed playing the saxophone in the band. Blane worked for the Hood River Shelter workshop for many years, having employment at Ben Franklin Variety store on the Heights and many other places. You could often find him making bins for fruit or cleaning. He then moved to Hawks Ridge and eventually spent the last decade of his life at Hood River Care Center. Blane was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church for his lifetime and was a faithful Christian, having been baptized as a baby and confirmed as a teenager. He would ride his bike to church every Sunday morning, serving as the sexton for many, many years. As an icon for riding his bike in Hood River, he would often visit with friends at Rosauers. Blane was blessed with a lovely tenor voice and would sing his heart out at any given chance. His favorite hymn was Silent Night, which he would sing in German every Christmas Eve. Blane loved playing the board game Aggravation, fishing, camping and baseball. He is survived by his church family and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Carl; his mother, Blenda; his brother, Glenn; and his Aunt Vera Youngsted. Blane’s last public confession to his Christian faith is his Christian burial which will be July 1, 2020. A viewing will be held at 3:00PM at Concordia Lutheran Church (1107 Pine Street Hood River, OR 97031). A graveside service at Mountain View Cemetery (1235 Tucker Road Hood River, OR 97031) will follow at 4:00pm. Should you attend, you are required to wear a mask and practice physical distancing. Blane asked that any memorial contributions be sent to the Hood River Valley High School band department for instruments or to Concordia Lutheran Church. All donations may be sent C/O Anderson’s Tribute Center (1401 Belmont Ave. Hood River, OR 97031). A very special thank you to the Hood River Care Center for the wonderful care given to him in his last years. He felt very much at home in their care. Anderson’s Tribute Center has done a remarkable job caring for Blane’s last wishes over the last 20 years, thank you. Blane summed up his life with Romans 8: 38-39, “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Rest in peace, old friend.
