Donald David Sullenger Hood River, Oregon Obituary

Donald David Sullenger

Donald David Sullenger passed away peacefully on Sunday, Oct. 8, 2017, at Southwest Medical Center in Vancouver, Wash. Don had his family at his side and went to be with the Lord. He was born and raised in Taneyville, Mo. In 1960, he moved to Odell, Ore., where he married Roberta Sharkey. They have a daughter, Teresa, and son, Scot. Donald was the best grandpa ever and had years of enjoyment with his grandchildren Ariana, Justin, and Alex Koops of Houston, Texas, and MaKenna, Sarah and Emily Sullenger of Cascade Locks, Ore. He loved to watch all of them participating in sports and was their biggest fan. He hardly ever missed watching the girls wrestle, play soccer and basketball. He would always brag about his dearly loved family. Sometimes we had to pull him off the wrestling mat! Don pitched a thousand baseballs for his granddaughters and shot hundreds of hoops with them. Don and Scot spent many hours working on cars, race cars and classics; it was a common hobby that they both loved. Don loved to go to car cruise-ins and drive his classic Camaro. They both enjoyed watching NASCAR races and were lucky enough to attend one together in Las Vegas, Nev. Don and Scot were really good friends, and were able to spend a lot of time together hunting, fishing and camping. Don had a lot of fun fishing with his friends in Cascade Locks. The Sullenger family liked being snow birds in the wintertime, travelling to Arizona with friends. Don enjoyed going to church every Sunday and helped with Sunday school. Don worked at Hanel Lumber Company for 28 years, driving heavy machinery in the log yard and building roads. Don was also self-employed for many years, operating a pressure washing business. Don and Roberta were the owners of the Oak Street Hotel in downtown Hood River, which they operated for seven years. In 2002, Don and Roberta retired to Cascade Locks to be close to Scot’s family. He was a wonderful husband to his best friend Roberta for 57 years. He will be missed by many. A time for viewing will take place on Thursday, Oct. 12 from 3-8 p.m. at Anderson’s Tribute Center, 1401 Belmont Ave., Hood River. A funeral service will be held on Friday, Oct. 13 at 2 p.m. at Anderson’s Tribute Center. A graveside service will follow at Pine Grove Butte Cemetery, (2687 Van Horn Dr., Hood River, Or.), 97031. Reception will follow the graveside at Hood River Nazarene Church, (2168 Belmont Dr., Hood River, Or.) In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Living Faith, 12 N.E. Vancouver Ave., Stevenson, WA 98648. Arrangements are under the direction of Anderson's Tribute Center. Visit www.AndersonsTributeCenter.com to leave a note of condolence for the family.
