Roy A. Thayer Hood River, Oregon Obituary

Roy A. Thayer

It is with great sadness we announce the death of Roy A. Thayer at the age of 88; after a brief illness, he quietly and peacefully passed away on Monday, June 1, 2020 with his family at his side. Roy was born January 1, 1932 in Steamboat Rock, Iowa to Harry and Edna Bell Thayer. He married the ‘love of his life’ Edna Irene Hoyt on May 20, 1953; she preceded him in death just 9-weeks earlier on March 31, 2020. Roy and Edna are survived by their five children Joleen Paradis, Peggy Jo (David) Menasco, Sylvia (Roger) Williams, Dale Thayer, and Joy Thayer; twelve grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Roy served 2 years in the U.S. Army and 18 years in the U.S. Air Force; there were multiple duty stations across the country and overseas, including Japan, Iceland, New Foundland, and Germany. While in Germany he felt and accepted the Lord’s calling to the ministry. He received his Bachelor’s of Theology Studies from the Little Rock Missionary Baptist Seminary and served many churches before feeling drawn to the Texarkana Baptist Orphanage, where they were house parents. He and Edna were avid travelers during their retirement, visiting several states and countries by land, sea, and air. He will be remembered for his quiet simplicity, family values, and dedication to family and friends. Due to COVID19 the family is postponing the Celebration of Life for Roy and Edna. Plans are being made to hold the celebration in Seattle, Washington the weekend of May 15, 16, 2021. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Roy Thayer to Heart of Hospice Foundation (C/O Anderson’s Tribute Center 1401 Belmont Ave. Hood River, OR 97031). Visit www.AndersonsTributeCenter.com to leave a note of condolence for the family. “Let us labor for the Master from the dawn till setting sun, Let us talk of all His wondrous love and care, Then when all of life is over and our work on earth is done, And the roll is called up yonder I’ll be there.”
