Helen Hoy

Helen Louise Hoy, 98, of Mingoville, passed away on Monday, August 7, 2017 at 7:20pm, at Mount Nittany Medical Center in State College. Born on February 15, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Stephen and Mary (Olyar) Matis. She married Harold M. Hoy on August 23, 1937, who preceded her in death on May 5, 2001. During the war, she worked at Sylvania Plant as monitor and instructor in Mill Hall, PA. She went on to work at HRB Singer in State College and Penn Tran in Wingate. She also helped her husband with his business for 30 years. She was a member of United Church of Christ in Hublersburg, Woman’s Guide, Walker Township Volunteer Fire Co. Auxiliary. She is survived by one daughter, Susan Nestlerode (David) and one son, Gary Hoy (Patricia), both of Mingoville, PA. Also surviving are six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by one son, Harold Hoy, Jr., one grandson, Jeffery Hoy, one great-grandson, Kurtis Hoy, three brothers, and four sisters. Helen was the last of her generation. Helen loved spending time with her family, cooking, baking, gardening, painting and art. She and her husband enjoyed roller skating, ice skating and dancing. She also enjoyed the outdoors. A public viewing will be held on Friday, August 11, 2017 from 9-11am at Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc., 206 N. Spring Street, Bellefonte. Funeral services will immediately follow at 11am at the funeral home with Rev. Keith Koch officiating. Burial will follow at Centre County Memorial Park in State College. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Walker Township Volunteer Fire Co. at 125 Fire House Lane Howard, PA 16841.
