Ida Mae Calhoun, loving mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, of Bellefonte, formerly of Unionville, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, March 16, 2013, at the age of 90. She was born in Dix Run, Boggs Township on May 9, 1922, a daughter of the late Marjorie Hazel Lucas Barton and Joseph Edward Barton. On August 23, 1946, she married Ardery Irvin Calhoun, who preceded her in death on November 14, 2002. She was a graduate of Bellefonte Area High School, and graduated from Lock Haven Teacher’s College in 1943. In her early years she taught at Bell Grove and Cherry Grove Schools in Union Township. She retired from the Bald Eagle Area School District after teaching for 25 years. Ida Mae loved her family, teaching, music, books and traveling. She was an excellent cook and loved to bake. She had a beautiful singing voice and was a vocalist at many weddings and church services. Holidays and family gatherings were very important to her. In her later years, she was in the loving care of her daughter Deborah and granddaughter Amy. She is survived by one sister, Florence (Joseph) DeHaas of Bellefonte. She is also survived by her six children; Audery Calhoun of Bellefonte, Melissa (Joseph) Kresovich of Bellefonte, David Calhoun of San Bernadino, CA, Deborah Calhoun of Bellefonte, Dennis (Kim) Calhoun of Richwood TX, Helen (Allen) Showers of Milesburg, along with 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her two brothers, Edward (Tip) Barton/Rose, and John Barton/ Helen. A public visitation will be held Thursday, March 21, 2013, from 6-8 pm, at Wetzler Funeral Service Inc. 206 N. Spring St., Bellefonte, PA. Funeral services will be on Saturday, March 23, 2013, at 10 am, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Union Township.
