Barbara J. Bowers, 94, Bellwood died Monday April 6, 2020 at Maybrook Hills Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, Altoona. She was born Sept. 2, 1925 in Lemont, the second oldest of ten children of the late Jacob E., Sr. and Edna M. (Rearick) Jackson. On Feb. 10, 1948 she married Bruce B. Bowers in Tipton, and he preceded her in death on June 6, 2010. Surviving are her daughter, Sondra L. (Tim) Berkstresser of Tipton; a grandson, Aaron J. Berkstresser; four sisters, Geraldine M. DePaulo of Nashville, Tenn., Marjorie E. (William)Stanton of Milford, Conn., Audrey K. (Joseph) Shultz of Bellefonte and Sally L. Haffley of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a brother, William E. (Phyllis) Jackson of Penrose, Colo.;and a sister in law, Frances E. Jackson of State College. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Judy Jane Bowers; and four siblings, Jacob E., Jr., Norman L., and Elmer B. Jackson, and Pauline A. Bertolet. Barbara was the only one that lived to be in her 90’s. Barbara formerly worked as a secretary in the agriculture department at Penn State University and also Trinity United Methodist Church, Bellwood. In 1990, she retired as assistant secretary at Bellwood Borough office after 25 years of service. She was an active lifetime member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Bellwood and Tipton United Methodist Church. She was an active leader for Girl Scouts of America, and she enjoyed cooking, camping and her flower gardens. Barbara’s greatest joy was being a loving and wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of her family. Interment will be at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood. Arrangements are by Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Inc. Bellwood. The family suggests that contributions in her memory be made to Alzheimer Foundation of America or American Cancer Society.
