David Miller Obituary

David S. Miller, 55, Bellwood died Wednesday morning at UPMC Altoona after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Altoona son of the late William H., Jr. and Ruth E. (Redman) Miller. On September 11, 1982 he married Beverly J. Kerns at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Bellwood. Surviving are his wife; two sons, David S., II (Kimberly Hedden) of East Hanover, NJ and Christopher (Jennifer) of Bellwood; three granddaughters, Callie Louise, Jaelee Mae and Josie Jean; six brothers, Donald H. “Butch” (Kathy) Estright of Manassas Park, Va, Ronald E. “Shorty”(Jerri) Estright of Bellwood, Richard C. (Yvonne)Miller of Greenwood, John R. (Wendi)Miller of Bellwood, William C. (Betty)Miller of Carlisle and Allen Miller of Reedsville; five sisters, Norma J. Schellhammer of Harleyville, SC, AnnaMae (Lynn) Iddings of Hyde, Linda L. (Ron)Brandt of Altoona, Nancy Ann (Rory)Fletcher of N. Charleston, SC and Peggy (Dale) Grove of McVeytown; many nieces and nephews; his mother in law, Thelma Kerns of Bellwood; and extended family members. David was a 1980 graduate of Bellwood-Antis High School. He retired at the rank of sergeant with the Pennsylvania Army National Guard in June 1999 after serving for 20 years. In October 2016 he retired as a laborer for the Borough of Bellwood with 26 years of service. He was a member of Hillside Community Church Bellwood. David was an active life member of Excelsior Fire Company No. 1 Bellwood where he formerly served as lieutenant and was a member of Central District Vol. Firemen’s Association and Allied Firemen’s Association. David loved his Lord and had a deep passion to always serve the people and the community of Bellwood. His greatest love was spending time with his family and three granddaughters. Friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8 pm Sunday, March 19, 2017 at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Inc. Bellwood where a firemen’s service will also be held at 5:45pm. A funeral service will be held at 11 am Monday, March 20, 2017 at Hillside Community Church, Bellwood, Pastor Randy Zitterbart officiating. Interment with firemen’s honors will be at Blair Memorial Park, Antis Township. The family suggests that contributions in David’s memory be made to Excelsior Fire Co. No. 1 Bellwood or Central PA Humane Society or Hillside Community Church.
