Donald E. Betke Obituary

Donald E. Betke, Sr., 81 of Bellwood, passed away peacefully Friday, August 7, 2020 at his home, surrounded by his family, after complications from congestive heart failure. He was born December 19, 1938 in Evanston, Ill., son of the late Louis and Edna (Fontaine) Betke. On Aug. 5, 1961, he married L. Deloris Campbell in Arlington, Va. Surviving are his beloved wife of 59 years; three children, Brenda (James) Wilson, of Flinton, Linda (James) Silva of Columbus, OH, and Donald, Jr., of Bellwood; and 5 grandchildren, Brooke (Jamie) Abrell, Kaitlyn Davis, and Alexis, Augustus and Aiden Betke. Donald is a 1957 graduate of Evanston Township High School, Illinois, and also attended Northern Illinois University. He later joined the Army, where he served 6 years as an Honor Guard at Fort Myer, VA. He was honorably discharged as a Private First Class in 1965, during the VietNam Era. Donald was a line operator at PPG. After retirement, he worked part-time for Federated Auto Parts as a delivery driver. Donald was a lifetime member of the Bavarian Hall and Vice-President of the Altoona Bowling Association. He was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed many years on his boat with his children and grandchildren. He was also a very achieved bowler, throwing a 300 in his career. He enjoyed watching his favorite teams, the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates and Penguins and Penn State Nittany Lions. Donald always had a joke or story for everyone he spoke with. He was very loved by all, and will be deeply missed by everyone. At the request of his family, a memorial service will be held at a later date.
