Edwin H. Wrye December 7, 1924 – September 15, 2016 Edwin H. Wrye, 91, Altoona, formerly of Tyrone died Thursday morning at his daughter’s home. He was born in Tyrone, son of the late William E. Jr. and Mary (McCarty) Wrye. On October 25, 1946 he married Betty R. Corrigan in Tyrone; and she preceded him in death on May 26, 2013. Surviving is a daughter, Darlene K. Newman of Altoona; two grandchildren: Cory J. Newman and Christopher E. Osterhout; two great-grandchildren: Dylan and Brianna Osterhout; and a brother: Gary of Florida. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Ann Osterhout; a son-in-law, Joseph Newman; a brother, Wendell; and a sister: Patty States. Edwin was an Army veteran of World War II and was a medic in the European Theater. He retired as a Laborer in the "beater room" at the Tyrone Paper Mill. He enjoyed reading and was an avid football and baseball fan. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandson. A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be at Blair Memorial Park, Antis Township. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions in Edwin’s memory be made to Home Nursing Hospice, Altoona, PA.
