Everette Bowers

Everette L. “Polecat” Bowers, Sr., 73, Altoona died early Sunday morning July 14, 2019 at Select Specialty Hospital Johnstown. He was born January 1, 1946 in Altoona son of the late Donald D. and Mary W. (Blaylock) Bowers. On April 6, 1968 he married Carol A. Claycomb in Winchester, Va. Surviving are his wife, Carol “Boots”; two sons, Everette L., Jr. and Kim L. “Butch” both of Altoona; a daughter, Dawn M. (Robert) Potts of Juniata; two grandchildren, Tristen and Harley Walters; three great grandchildren, Easton, Aspyn and Brystol; three brothers, Gary and Jeff both of Altoona, and Tim of North Carolina; a step brother, David of Blairsville; two sisters, Linda Raia and Karen Benton both of Altoona; and a step sister, Judy Mish of Johnstown. He was preceded in death by a brother, Daniel; two infant brothers, Johnny and Steven; an infant sister, Ann; and a step brother, Donald, Jr. Polecat was a 1965 graduate of Bellwood Antis High School and a US Army veteran serving during the Vietnam Era. He retired as a truck driver at Ward Trucking Altoona after 38 years of service. He was a member of Schum Memorial Methodist Church, Altoona and the Ward Retiree Club. Polecat enjoyed going to his camp on the Juniata River, fishing, hunting, watching television game shows and writing poetry. For years, he was active in dirt track racing, especially watching his son Everette, Jr. driving for the Bowers Racing Team #76. He also enjoyed NASCAR, with Dale Earnhart, Sr. being his favorite. His greatest joy was time with his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and family. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Inc. Bellwood. A family gathering will be held at a later date.
