Florence Hirt

Florence Eldean Hirt, 94, Tipton died Thursday evening Jan. 3, 2019 at her home.She was born July 27, 1924 in Tipton, daughter of the late Harvey F. and Rachel E. (Johnson) Cherry. On Feb. 3, 1942, she married Ralph W. Hirt in Bellwood and he preceded her in death on Sept. 5, 1981. Surviving are a daughter, Connie E. James, with whom she resided; a son, John F. of Tipton; two grandchildren, Beth (Damian) Futrick and Todd (Erin) Hirt; five great grandchildren, Tyne (Mike) Blazier, Jordan Futrick and Alexis, Wyatt and Lincoln Hirt; and two great-great grandchildren, Jason and Hunter; a daughter in law, Jeanette; three nieces, Anita Iulg, and Dianne and Linda Estep; her cousin, Linda Dickson and her dear friend, Mary Parson, who were always there for her. She was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Smith; a cousin, Dale Reed who was raised as a brother to her; and her beloved grandson, Jason Hirt. Eldean was a member of Tipton Baptist Church. She was formerly employed at Big Yank Corp., Tyrone and had also worked in the bakery of Long’s Dairy, Tyrone, the deli at Bellwood IGA, and was a hoagie maker at Marianna’s Foods, Tipton. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, canning, baking pies and cakes, doing Search-a-word puzzles, and watching game shows and football on television. She also enjoyed planting and working in her flower garden. Friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8pm Monday, Jan. 7, 2019 at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Inc. Bellwood. A funeral service will be held at 11am Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2019 at the funeral home, Pastor John Pine officiating. Interment will be at Blair Memorial Park, Antis Township. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in her memory be made to Central Pennsylvania Humane Society, Altoona PA.
