Jack E. Dunn, 89, Bellwood died Friday afternoon at his home. He was born in Bellwood son of the late Blair and Sarah (Garland) Dunn. He married Marjorie H. McFarland on July 10, 1948 at First Methodist Church, Bellwood. Surviving are his wife of 67 years; two sons, Michael (Louise) and Stephen (Sandy) both of Bellwood; four grandchildren, Gwen (Richard) Schreier, Melissa Dunn, Kimberly (Jonathan) Holmes and Andrew (Crystal) Dunn; 7 great grandchildren, Chance, Holden and Reid Schreier, Ryleigh and Declan Holmes, and Levi Jack and Ella Dunn; a sister in law, Peggy Troxell of Canton, Ohio; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Marjorie and a brother, Donald. Jack was a 1943 graduate of Bellwood Antis High School. He was a US Marine Corps veteran serving during World War II at the rank of corporal with the 3rd Engineers 3rd Division in Guam and the 1st Engineers 1st Division in China . Jack worked as a clerk at Dunn’s Grocery Store, Bellwood and retired from Cornmesser’s Hardware, Bellwood. He was also the manager of Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Bellwood where he sang in the choir and was a member of the Philathea Sunday School class. Jack enjoyed playing trumpet and was a member of the Penna Railroad Band and the Gardner Guards Drum & Bugle Corps, Tyrone. He marched in two presidential inaugural parades and performed during the Ed Sullivan Show. He was a life member of Excelsior Fire Company No. 1 Bellwood where he served as fire chief for more than 20 years and was the oldest living member. He enjoyed grooming his yard. Friends will be received from 6-9 pm Monday, July 13, 2015 at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Inc. Bellwood. A funeral service will be held at 11am Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at Trinity United Methodist Church, Bellwood, the Rev. Jay Morris officiating. Interment with military honors will be at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood. The family suggests that contributions in Jack’s memory be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, Bellwood, Bellwood-Antis Public Library or Excelsior Fire Co. No. 1 Bellwood.
