James Estright

James A. Estright, 69, Altoona, died Tuesday afternoon June 19, 2018 at Hillview Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center with his daughters by his side after a strong and determined seven month battle following complication from surgery. He was born July 21, 1948 in Tyrone son of the late Robert and Mary Virginia (Grazier) Estright. On January 18, 1969 he married Eileen M. Doherty in Portsmouth, New Hampshire and she preceded him in death on September 28, 2016 Surviving are three daughters, Michele A. (Jeffrey) Leamer of Bellemead, Lisa M. (Michael) Hawn of Bellwood and Lori L. Yeager of Altoona; four grandchildren, Katelyn Marie and Kelly Ann Leamer and Christopher and Jacob James Hawn; five brothers, Samuel of Sandy Ridge, Daniel of North Carolina, Michael of Arkansas, Andy of Frenchville and Greg of Philadelphia; six sisters, Nettie Ann Woomer of Seattle, Washington, Sandra Rawlings of Texas, Virginia Decker of Tyrone, Kay Painter of Exton, Alice Rose of Florida and Lindsey Estright of Tyrone; and his cat, Lilly. He was preceded in death by brother, Robert, Jr. James was a US Navy veteran serving during the Vietnam Era. He retired in 2011 as a corrections officer at Blair County Prison after 20 years of service. He was of the Catholic faith. James was a member of Tyrone Sportsmen’s Association and enjoyed hunting, fishing and archery hunting. He was a fan of New England Patriots football and especially loved spending time with and watching his grandchildren play in sporting events. Jim will be greatly missed by his children and grandchildren, “NO WORRIES”. Friends will be received from 6-9pm Friday, June 22, 2018 at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Inc. Bellwood. A funeral service outside of Mass will be held at 10am Saturday, June 23, 2018 at the funeral home, Rev. Alan Thomas officiating. Committal will be at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood.
