James L. Helsley, 71, Antis Township died Saturday afternoon at Epworth Manor, Tyrone. He was born in Chimney Rocks, Hollidaysburg son of the late Henry E. and Verna M. (Barr) Helsley. He married Nancy L. Ventre on Oct. 26, 1968 in Altoona. Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Lorine A. (Gregory A.) Tipton of Bellwood; a son, James L., Jr. (Dawn) of Altoona; nine grandchildren; Joseph "JD" (Brittany), Tiffany, Lakisha (Craig), Trevor, Jacob, Shana, Shawn (Samantha), Tristan and Brett; six great grandchildren; Paige, Aleigha, Shawna, Madison, Courtney and Kailiee; a brother, John (Patricia) of Antis Township; and two sisters, Ruth (Ralph) Bathurst of Pulaski and Judy Patterson of Tyrone. James was a 1962 graduate of Bellwood-Antis High School . He retired as a truck driver at Holsum Bakery, Altoona and served with the PA National Guard, Tyrone for six years. He was an avid farmer and enjoyed farming on the family farm. James attended Bellwood Church of the Brethren. He held a tribe card for the Delaware and Tuscarora Leni-Lenape Tribe. James was a member of the BAHS Class of 1962 reunion committee. He was a history buff, an avid train historian and enjoyed riding trains. He especially loved attending auctions. Friends will be received from 4-8pm Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Inc. Bellwood. A funeral service will be held at 8pm Wednesday at the funeral home with Pastor Rod Thomas officiating. Interment will be at Blair Memorial Park, Antis Township.
