Jerry Grazier

Jerry M. Grazier, 74, Bellwood died Thursday evening at UPMC Altoona. He was born in Altoona son of the late Harold L., Sr. and Mary E. (Lang) Grazier. On June 28, 1969 he married Vickie E. Schmidt at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church Bellwood and she preceded him in death on July 27, 2015. Surviving are a daughter, Angela E. (Michael) Sgro of Tyrone; a son, Michael M.(Susan) of Bellwood; four grandchildren, Tyler and Zachary Vasbinder, Aden Sgro and Braden Nelson; a sister, Sharon G. Chilcoat of Bellwood; nieces and nephews; and his three brothers- in- law that were raised in the Grazier home, Ross J. “Jim”, Steven H. and Jeffrey L. Schmidt. He was preceded in death by a brother, Harold “Bud” Grazier, Jr. Jerry was a 1961 graduate of Bellwood-Antis High School and was a US Army veteran serving during the Vietnam Era. Jerry retired as a truck driver at Ward Trucking, Altoona after 25 years of service. He was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Bellwood. He was a member of John M. Anderson American Legion Post 424, Bellwood F.O.E, and served as past president of the VFW, Bellwood. He was also a member of Bavarian Club and Swiss Club of Altoona. Jerry was an avid football and baseball fan and was co-founder of Bellwood Antis Little League Football along with his brother, Bud Grazier. He enjoyed playing cards, chess, and corn hole and especially spending time at his cabin in Sinking Valley with his family and friends. Friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8pm Monday, Sept. 26, 2016 at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Inc. Bellwood. A funeral service will be held at 10:30am Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2016 at the funeral home, Rev. Peggy Bonsell officiating. Interment with military honors will be held at Blair Memorial Park, Antis Township. The family suggests that contributions in Jerry’s memory be made to Wounded Warriors Project or VFW Bellwood.
