Joan Sargent Bellwood, Pennsylvania Obituary

Joan Sargent

Joan Marilyn (Jewell) Sargent, 83, formerly of Bellwood, passed away on April 13th in the company of family. She was born in Pittsburgh, the daughter of William and Mae (Gruber) Jewell. On November 22, 1952, Joan married Jack Benner Sargent at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bellwood. He preceded her in death on January 4, 2006; as did her sister, Donna J. Hesley in 2013. There are three surviving children, Jewell Ann (Rob) Carey of Chester Springs, Eric (Janice) of Pollock Pines, Ca, and Jason (Stacey) of Duncansville; and four grandchildren, Jana, Dillon, Torrey, and Sabrina Sargent. Joan's extended family includes Tom Hesley, Christine and Richard Gonder, Diane and Roger Lannen, Mary Ann and Tom Henderson, and Joanne and Kenny Campbell, in addition to lots of great nieces and nephews. Joan graduated from Altoona Area High School in 1950, and remained active in their alumni association. In her youth, she and Jack enjoyed sports car rallies, swimming, boating, and camping. Her love of downhill skiing was fostered in her entire family and many friends. Joan was an accomplished lifelong oil and watercolor artist. Playing cards and board games, especially Scrabble, and traveling on casino bus trips with friends were some of her favorite pastimes. The only thing more important to Joan was the time she spent with her family on vacations and holiday outings. Joan enjoyed the Christian fellowship at Grace Bible Church in Hollidaysburg. She also rekindled her Catholic faith through her roommate Agnes, and the Eucharistic ministry at Graystone Manor at Bellmeade. Friends will be received from 1-3 & 5-7pm Friday, May 13, 2016 at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Inc. Bellwood where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be held at 11am Saturday, May 14, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Bellwood, Rev. Alan Thomas as celebrant. Monetary remembrances of Joan can be directed to the Bellwood-Antis Public Library in her honor.
